Mirror, mirror 🪞

Made in His image.

In the beginning, God made man in His image (Gen 1:26), we know that. Think about it, when Adam conversed with God in the cool of the evening, He must have looked upon the face of a God no different from himself. Adam looked like God.

Then sin happened and that image got distorted. God being a Holy God could not stand sin, thus causing a strain in the relationship between man and God. Can you still be close to one that your eyes cannot behold? The effect of sin triggered endless catastrophe.

Your eyes are too pure to look on evil
Habakkuk 1:3

Sin made it possible to look at God, who we should look like, and see a total stranger; one with whom we should have all things in common but now have nothing in common. Through sin, the bond between ourselves and our significant other, Abba, seemed to be lost.

But Jesus came and if it is true that ‘Jesus is the express image of God,’ (Hebrews 1:3), it means that men were once again confronted with the reality and possibility of our real nature, the true nature of God in us. It means that in the eyes of Jesus, men could see the truth of who they were meant to be. It means that the cloak of sin could be peeled away to slowly but surely reveal the Adam that God initially created.

The sacrifice of Jesus, asides from atoning for our sins, also provided a classical example of the possibility – that if God could come down as a man and live without sin through the power of the Holy Spirit then so can we. Besides, ‘… we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathise with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.’ (Heb 4:15).

Despite sin, we can still accept salvation bought through the blood of Jesus and slowly but surely get to the point where we look more and more like Him, just like we are supposed to.

I love 2 Corinthians 3:18 so much. Here is what it says:

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

You see that! I want to let you know that as a believer, the more you spend time with God, the more you are changed into the same image. You begin to look more and more like Him, just like you were initially made to.

And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
Colossians 3:10

Notice something important in the above verse, the new man which is your real nature in God, is renewed through your knowledge of God. It means that the more you study God’s Word, the more you unlock new facets of your identity in Christ.

I have watched countless cartoons or movies where the hero was abandoned from birth and is probably getting trained by a guardian in order to come into his real power. The more he is exposed to the knowledge of who he truly is, the more he can harness his power.
The more you look into God’s Word, the more you discover your true identity in God. That, in itself, is POWER. And why not? When the people of God daily perish literally because of lack of knowledge. If you never know what you can do, what is possible, then you may never try to do it. Lack of knowledge is a limitation.

and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
Eph 4:24

The life given to us by Christ is one that looks like God, so when we become born again that is who we become. We are set apart for Holy works! However, we must intentionally study God’s word to harness the power that He has deposited in us. We must look at Jesus (the Word in flesh) and often, to discern the truth about our birth and origin. Our purpose, if you may.

Mirror mirror, is no longer on the wall
It is right in your hands
This mirror looks beyond the cloak of your skin
This mirror sees straight into your heart
This mirror is the Bible.

Shalom ❤🕊✨
