How long can you stay high?

First, let’s pretend that we both have the same notion of “highness” in our heads, yes? Second, let’s pretend again that you’re not here to hear another of my drunk tales, okay?

Disclaimer: You will not agree with everything youโ€™re about to read, and that is not okay.

Have you ever been high? What gets you high? Maybe you smoke, you drink, take mood altering substances just to get that top of the world feeling, to feel “good”. Maybe you’re like me, maybe you like to buy stuff to make yourself feel better? When I get moody or sad, I just want to buy something – maybe I can’t even afford it, maybe I’ll go broke buying it, maybe I don’t even need it – but I go ahead and buy it. That’s my high.

I like it, I like how I feel when I buy stuff. It feels good great. I could literally pay a stranger’s bill just out of excitement. I’d literally be leaping off the floor.

And you know what’s funny? When I order whatever it is I am buying, I take a screenshot and favourite the picture so it’s the first thing I see when I open my gallery. I’ll just stay o, and be looking at it, imagining how it would feel when I finally hold it in my arms and of course, smiling like a fool. ๐Ÿ˜‚
I would stare at the picture everyday until I get the call from the delivery guy. And when I finally hold my order in my hands, no matter how lovely, I drop it. I delete the picture from my phone and move on with my life, looking for the next item to purchase.
It’s not like it was “What I ordered vs What I got” o! Nothing like that, it’s just that what made me excited was the fact that I had something on the way, when it arrives, the excitement fades and I need something new to make me “high” again.
The excitement fades, I feel drab, moody. And that’s on a good day.

Then if I happen to get a delivery that wasn’t what I ordered? It’s like the end of the world! You can ask my friend Amanda. My mood drastically drops, I lose my appetite, I become so unhappy and it affects the mood of everyone around me. I’d become so sad, you’d think I lost a limb.

And this wasn’t a one time thing, It was something that happened over and over again. It wasn’t a good habit, not for me and definitely not for those around me.

But what was I expecting? That’s how “highness” works! You smoke and get high, you drink and get drunk, for some moments Micheal Jacksoon has got nothing on your moonwalking through the clouds but 2 seconds later you hit the cold hard ground, hard. 2 seconds later, I realize I had a more pressing need instead of the pretty dress I just purchased.

So I ask again, how long can you stay high?

Do you keep smoking? Do you keep drinking? Do you keep buying? Do you keep partying and doing anything just to stay high? How long can you stay high?

Let me take you to school for a minute…

There’s this concept in Economics that’s always fascinated me, the concept of Saturation Point in the market. To explain this simply, it’s the point at which increased supply of a product will result in lower, not higher sales. When the market is saturated, it means that maximum level of consumption has been reached and so, it begins to fall.
It means that at a point, that same smoke you used to smoke, in that same quantity, will not get you as high as it used to. It means that soon, buying just one dress will not be enough. Soon, having sex with multiple people over a space of time will not be enough, you’ll want a threesome or an orgy.

Forward ever, they say… ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ

For the market demand to move, innovation has to occur. Innovation meaning, new products or new features of the same products (i.e graduating from just weed to harder substances; buying just a dress to using my school fees to go shopping) – just to get the SAME feeling. Now you have to do more, just to get the same feeling. And who wants to feel the same way forever? Of course you want to have a taste of something “better” and that’s how it starts.

But what’s the point?

Choices like these harm you, you find yourself regretting but because you’re so used to getting high in that way, you go back again and again to get some more. Just to be happy for a while. Just to forget.
LOL. Who are you kidding nau?

What’s your high? What is that thing you constantly do to feel good even though it hurts you? What is that bad habit you can’t seem to break free of? What is your high? I’ve got something for you.

There is a better way. To get high, and stay high.

There is God, your Father, your Creator, your Maker. There is an excitement, a “highness” found in God’s presence, when it surrounds you that you can’t even express in words. Literally, your heart LEAPS. You can’t stop smiling, you just feel so good, so HIGH.

I can say this because I’ve had a taste of the highness of the world and now, I’m having a taste of God’s highness – the difference is clear. Getting intoxicated with the Spirit is… so… beautiful. It moves and shakes you, it brings you to your knees, it breaks you and it remakes you. Everyday I fellowship with the Spirit, I feel like a layer of the flesh is being removed and I become more and more like my Father. (2 Corinthians 3:18).

Everyday, it seems life gets better at throwing problems and bad situations your way. But what if I told you that you don’t even have to be moved by life’s tantrums? You don’t have to worry? You don’t have to fear? You just have to be still, literally and let Him take charge of your life.

There is an awesome way to get high, without regrets or repercussions that make you hate yourself. But first, you have to let God in, you have to confess your sins and ask for Mercy; you have to be willing to do away with your old ways, totally.

He’s waiting for you! You just have to open up and let go. If you need help with this, please contact me. My email is rehdwolf@gmail.com.

P.S – I’m not in anyway saying I have stopped buying stuff, it still makes me happy but no, I wouldn’t prioritize it or let it hurt my finances and I definitely do not need it to make me feel “good.” ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

I feel I understand where you are coming from. for me, it happens when ever I get the urge to do something. I can never seem to shake off the feeling until I have used up all my options.
I’m getting better self-control but I must admit that every day isn’t rosy.

It definitely easy but it does get better. Destructive habits like that just take away from us until we have nothing left to give. God help us ๐Ÿ˜Š

I love how you made it a journey. The first thought that definitely came to mind was high on drinks….but it is more than that…the crave to buy something only to move on to the next one when you receive it …and summing it up with the spiritual highness…

Let me go define things that makes me high then see the damage it does

My own high is movies. I just go off. Especially when it’s a drama series…I just have to get to the end… it’s so easy to forget other stuffs when I’m sitting in front of one.
But then like you said, I try to be careful with it
